Mill Made Of Ships

Strong supports and tall spaces...

This large, silent space was once filled with the sound of mill machinery and dust. Sacks of grain were hauled up, poured out and ground in a massive milling wheel. When the machinery was installed in the 1800s ship masts and timbers were used as extra supports.

The Mill stored grain and feed stuffs for the Oakley Company up until the 1960s. A warehouse of one type or other has stood on Poole's Paradise Street for more than 200 years.
