Six birds, six industries

The Birds sculpture shows six birds which represent six of the historical industries or inventions which have been associated with Poole over the centuries.

The industries include maritime trade and boatbuilding, but also more recent objects such as the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) which expressed the age of electronics, and the lava lamp, iconic of the new culture and tastes that developed in the 1960s and 70s.
