From Fridges to Frigates
The electrical engineering company Aish & Co had their Vanguard Works here, a distinctive building with turrets and gates. The firm was into everything electrical, from domestic appliances to theatre lighting systems and car ignitions. Their cheerful advertisements appeared everywhere, urging customers to consult them on Everything Electrical.
One customer was the Royal Navy, which used the company’s expertise to make control systems for warships and submarines, including the Vanguard class nuclear missile subs.
The company’s Vanguard Works here have been replaced by flats, but they still operate out of Poole. They are best know for their Low Signature Impressed Current Cathodic Protection System (ICCP) which masks the electrical signature of submarines to help them avoid detection.
